PLACE/Ladywell’s own artist in residence Lewisham-born Emi Ali will be in the nook at the front of the site for the next few weeks, building a collection of portraits of local people for an exhibition at PLACE/Ladywell’s opening in July (exact date TBC). If you live, work or just hang out in Lewisham, and want to be part of this experience, come along at the times on Emi’s website here
You can have your portrait drawn, and possibly become part of the exhibition, or come along to a drawing workshop – first one this Saturday 14th May from 10 am: eyes. Details of future workshops are on Emi’s website
We are very excited to be shortlisting tenants for PLACE/Ladywell, and hope to have some fabulous new businesses on site in July. If you didn’t make the shortlisting for retail or open plan space this time around, don’t worry, Meanwhile Space are taking expressions of interest on a rolling basis for these spaces here
So PLACE/Ladywell now has a first floor, second floor soon to come, and is standing up bright and colourful behind the hoarding.
If you want to see how the site is coming along from the inside, we are having a site visit on 21st March at 10:30. You can sign up for a place here. It’s still very much a building site, so be aware and wear sensible shoes.
Come along this weekend to PLACE/Ladywell and learn more about the local charity the RUBY Foundation. They will be hosting a series of workshops in music, journalism and production to display the extensive range of services they provide for the young people of Lewisham. Come along to support and connect within your community – and learn a few skills along the way.
For more information about the Ruby Foundation visit www.rubyfoundation.co.uk
There’s an opportunity coming up to help create fun and interest at PLACE/Ladywell. We’re looking for someone who can engage passers-by in an entertaining way and help tell the story of what will be happening on site. If you are interested, there’s more information at the Meanwhile Space website here
Toy Making at PLACE/Ladywell.
This weekend we are joined by designers in a workshop to create wooden toys.
PLACE/Ladywell is in its second phase, the building is going up and the site is busy with builders being transformed into something to be shared by the local community. To mark this second phase, we are hosting a toy making workshop to mimic and celebrate this new innovative development. Through the creation of construction vehicles we ask you to consider the future of the site. Use your construction vehicle to remodel the site and build your very own PLACE/Ladywell.
Leave your toys with us and we’ll package and deliver them to someone special in time for Christmas.
This weekend PLACE/Ladywell will be filled with creative festivities.
Join us on Friday evening and contribute to our community Christmas tree. Whether you enjoy knitting, sewing, drawing or craft come and be a part of the project. Your creation will then be displayed in a local gallery for all to appreciate.
